Manildra are Australia’s largest producer of Ethanol and have a large and established ethanol facility in Bombaderry, near Nowra in NSW.
TFA were engaged by Manildra to design a new ethanol export facility at Port Kembla which would transport product from the main facility, store at the Port Kembla facility and export potable ethanol into the Asian market. This greenfield ethanol storage terminal included 6 x 4ML ethanol tanks, two wharf lines, loading and unloading gantries, site buildings, and associated infrastructure.
TFA was the lead consultant in managing the project through all stages of concept, approvals, and detail design. The approvals phase involved a complex State Significant Development application with the Department of Planning for which TFA holds the appropriate registered environmental assessment practitioner credentials to lead.
The project had complex design and engineering challenges both in site constraints with flooding and in designing a facility which could ensure the end-to-end transfer of potable ethanol through various pipes, pumps and tank storage systems whilst meeting strict potable transport requirements.
